About
“Wire We Doing This” was a project I worked on for a 1 week game jam with the prompt of making a game with an alternate controller. The game featured the player as a mech that would have to go around solving puzzles, the twist came with the controller only has three inputs and the actions those inputs were associated to could be changed based on the wires that you connected to the inner panel of the controller.
Background
I was grouped with strangers from every year in the Sheridan Game Design program with a total of five people with the challenge of making a custom controller for a game. Our idea stemmed from our groups shared interest in mechs and wanted to create a controller that emulated being an engineer that would need to rewire during use of the mech. Being versed in soldering electronics and working with different circuitry I made the physical controller and connected it to the digital game. This project was interesting because in a sense it felt like designing a board game along with digital elements where physical aspects of the controller itself affected the game.
